Unique Canadian Pet Insurance

"In Canada there are many unique pets"

In Canada there are many unique pets. This is also the case all over the world but Canada has the advantage of the North Pole being close to them. This makes the provision of Canadian pet insurance a unique proposition. The entity underwriting pet insurance in Canada needs to consider the wide variety of pets they are likely to encounter. Normal coverage for most pet insurance providers include standard pets such as dogs, cats, fish, birds and even reptiles. Where Canadian pet insurance really stands out is in the coverage of large animals such as bears and moose. These animals are considered exceptional cases but there may be some families in Northern Canada who regard these large animals as pets.

Normal Coverage

Standard Canadian pet insurance may cover a percentage of the vet’s bills, medicine and the costs of normal preventative care for heartworms and fleas for dogs and cats. As the animals get more exotic then the level of coverage per dollar will decrease. Coverage is available for snakes and other reptiles but the costs will be extreme. Normal Canadian pet insurance is not available for moose or bears, but insurance is most likely available somewhere for these animals.

Providers of Canadian pet insurance are subject to the scrutiny of a large number of pet owner association and organizations such as the RSPCA. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals owes it origins to the home organization in the United Kingdom. Canadian pet insurance for normal pets is therefore reasonable for most animals and in particular for dogs and cats.

Exceptional Coverage

As you progress into the world of exotic animals perhaps even including marine mammals, Canadian pet insurance is most likely obtained for these animals from specialist underwriting agencies. These agencies understand that often the animal is highly trained and may even be a working pet so that when the animal dies, it can also be a very expensive loss. There is considerable investment that goes into training exotic and working animals and with their death this investment is lost. This form of Canadian pet insurance is known as liability and mortality insurance and may be available for any animal for the write price. However, the moose and the bear are not common animals even to these specialists who usually focus on circuses and other entertainment animals. In fact often the venue for the entertainment must also be insured as sometimes the exotic animal may be dangerous and their owner will need to take special forms of liability to cover accidental mauling or other such frightening events. It is unlikely that you can obtain Canadian pet insurance to cover the effects of a mad moose but it might be available.
